Swisscows was founded to create a space free from surveillance, tracking, and data storage. This goal remains unchanged.
But the digital landscape has evolved – and so have the conditions under which we can operate.

Due to high costs, it is no longer possible for us to remain completely ad-free. Therefore, we must rely on external advertising options.
Advertisements provided by external partners inevitably involve data flows that we are not allowed to technically block.

This means: The free version of Swisscows remains family-friendly and value-based.
We at Swisscows still do not store data, do not track, and have no interest in user data. However, due to technical requirements from advertising partners, user interactions can no longer remain entirely surveillance-free.

Swisscows Pro: The only option for 100% anonymous, ad-free searching

To ensure users can continue searching in complete privacy, we created Swisscows Pro.

With Swisscows Pro:

• no data is stored
• no ads are displayed
• no search queries are shared
• your privacy remains fully protected on a technical level
• searching stays just as anonymous as Swisscows was originally designed to be

Swisscows Pro is the surveillance-free zone we always intended to guarantee.

Why was this step necessary?
The truth is simple and uncomfortable:
Search engines without advertising are not financially sustainable.

And since Microsoft Bing will no longer allow privacy-safe ads (as before) starting in 2026, we were left with two options: shut Swisscows down, or create a way for anonymous searching to remain possible – but as a paid premium service.

We chose the second option because we believe there are people who truly need real privacy – not as a luxury, but as a fundamental right.

What does this mean for the free version of Swisscows?
The open Swisscows search remains:

• family-friendly
• free from violence and pornography
• free from manipulation of search results
• without tracking by Swisscows
• a safe place for children and families

But:
Because of external advertising technologies, it is no longer fully anonymous.

We want to remain honest: If you want absolute anonymity, you need Swisscows Pro.
